Requirements Questions (Interview with Jeff)

How does the technology (XBee chips) work?

Radio signal: use signal strength, time (if possible), or other alternative to measure distance.

What is the end goal / purpose (including what is within the scope of this project)?

Robot localization in doors, robots moving from outdoors to indoors (GPS -> LPS and vice versa while maintaining coordinates), security (tag equip). Also, though not discussed we could tag people like Jeff so we can always find him.

What is out of scope?

Outdoors, system recognition and transition between GPS and LPS, anywhere beyond the Atrium unless we meet all other requirements under ‘budget’ / under time.

What is the scope of the project?
Key requirements (project success):
  • Atrium main floor
  • 2d position tracking
  • Raw data of position
  • GUI environment that displays position of tracked chips (need further requirements for this)
  • Coordinates within 1 meter accuracy
  • Origin of mapping is same as GPS origin (i.e. true longitude, latitude, and elevation if elevation is implemented)
  • All node positions known and don’t move (except of course the chip being located)
  • Probabilistic coordinate identification
Additional requirements (would like to have time permitting):
  • 3d position tracking (i.e. includes elevation – halls crossing over atrium)
  • position tracking around corners, stairwell, and other signal drop off areas
  • Variable positioned nodes (if possible) / self discovering
  • Intelligent system coordinate identification
What is provided? (need to discuss this further)

4 positioned nodes (more provided, as needed)
