have u guys figured anything out about measuring distance or proximity with xbees??

cgilson, Yes, we are working on calculating distance based on signal strength. Signal strength declines the farther you are from the XBee sending the signal. However, the primary problem involved with this is that reflection, refraction, and absorbtion of signals causes a much larger impact than distance does. From our experiments within 20 feet there appears to be a linear relationship between signal strength and distance. However, once you move beyond this the data doesn't show any useful correlation because the things I mentioned above have a much larger impact. For example, simply moving your hand in front of the XBee will have a huge impact on the signal strength. As to how we are going to handle these sorts of problems, we have not completely decided. I do, however, recommend you read the ACM document on our reference page. It will give you a lot of insight into one possible avenue of approach. Best Regards, Jesse Cook
