![]() Our degree programs are designed to provide students with a solid base of computer programming, interface design, and problem solving. Besides computer programming, the computer science degree leads to a great variety of possible jobs, including network programming, database management, interface design, and system administration. To keep up to date with the ever changing job market, our program offers a wide variety of electives including, data base programming, network programming and security, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, robotics, game programming techniques, and many more. I suggest you visit the career center of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) to see if there is a career that interests you. At SIUE we believe that education is more than just classroom instruction. We sponsor an active student organization, the Computer Association of SIUE (CAOS). CAOS is an official student chapter of the ACM, which is the major organization of computer professionals. The student group organizes a variety of academic and social activities, and maintains an active message board. In addition to our student organization, we maintain contact or sponsor memberships to St. Louis professional groups such as GatewayCHI. Our capstone project is designed to provide a real-world, team development experience. As a project team our students analyze, design, implement, and deploy applications for University departments and St. Louis companies. Besides a real-world experience these projects provide an opportunity for our students to have an actual project they can point to when applying for jobs. Please visit out senior projects pages to see for yourself. Our students do very well in the St. Louis job market. The international, national, and high tech companies that are located in the St. Louis area provide our students with educational opportunities, internships, and long term employment. Among the companies that our students have found internships and jobs with are SBC, Edward Jones, Anheuser-Busch, Monsanto, AG Edwards, Boeing, Perficient, Hertz, and many others. While our programs prepare students to enter the high tech job market, we also have students who go on for advanced degrees at schools such as Washington University in St. Louis. Please browse our webpages to see the variety of activities and educational opportunities available, and we think you’ll find SIUE a good choice to pursue a degree in computer science.
